First experience with 3D Studio Max..
This is Project number 1 from a 3DS MAX class I took this past summer. Took some getting used to, and I don't like the modeling functions as well as those in LightWave, but the lighting effects seem to be superior.
The image map for the bentwood box is from a photo of an actual Tlingit design, while the Killer Whale drum was drawn in Photoshop, inspired by Southeast Alaskan Haida art, reminiscent of the wonderful Native art that abounds in Ketchikan Alaska, where I used to live. Oh, how I miss the fishing up there!
I hope to get the opportunity to use some lab time to rough up those logs, as they DO look like a bunch of Lincoln Logs! I obviously need practice with textures...The rope rail could use a little roughing up, as well.
This scene was recently featured in the Screening Room at Animation Artist, a superb online magazine, for animators and enthusiasts alike. It is no longer up at that site, however... so you'll have to send me your criticisms directly!
